When you do your intermediate powerboat qualification with us, you sign up to a course on some of the most incredible coastline around. With towering cliffs, iconic rock formations such as Durdle Door and sheltered anchorages like Lulworth Cove.
During the two day course, we teach navigational techniques for planning and executing a longer passage during the day and on day 2 we plan a route to either Lulworth Cove, passing Ringstead, White Nothe, Bats Head, Durdle Door and Stair Hole or out to the famous Portland Bill Lighthouse and the incredible East coast of Portland, with cliffs, caves, the Shambles and Portland Harbour.
This course covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques. It aims to teach the standard required to complete a short coastal passage by day. This course builds on the foundation knowledge of the Level 2 course and is suited to those who aim to drive larger more powerful powerboats. During the course you will cover cruising at planing speed and more advanced boat handling. It is recommended for anyone considering moving on to the Advanced course.
By the end of this course you should be happy planning and undertaking a daylight passage, taking a number of factors into consideration. More advanced boat handling and safety considerations are a key part of this course.
Candidates should be competent to the standard of RYA Powerboat Level 2. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid and VHF/SRC operator's certificate and have knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory.
